WeObserve was a H2020 Coordination and Support Action (CSA) that tackled three key challenges that Citizens Observatories (COs) face: awareness, acceptability and sustainability. The project aimed to improve the coordination between existing Citizen Observatories and related regional, European and International activities.
The WeObserve mission was to create a sustainable ecosystem of Citizen Observatories that could systematically address these identified challenges and help to move citizen science into the mainstream.
Our contribution to the project was in stimulating the uptake of the Citizen Observatories’ knowledge base. We aimed to do this through the following channels:
- Creating toolkits that bring together tools developed across many COs for creating communities of participants involved in citizen science.
- Running a MOOC to teach methods, protocols and guides for co-created citizen science experiments.
- Organising a data challenge to promote the update to CO data by SMEs.
